Biography: British comedian, a member of the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python. Cleese was the comedian behind Python classics such as ‘The Ministry of Silly Walks’, hugely popular with Python fans to this day. His infamous role as seaside-hotel owner Basil Fawlty remains perhaps his most memorable television performance; a tour de force in slapstick humour mixed with razor-sharp writing and comic delivery. Cleese began writing film scripts after starring in Jim Henson’s Muppet Show (1976). He has since written and acted in a host of films such as A Fish Called Wanda (1988) and, more recently, appeared in the James Bond movie Die Another Day (2002). Cleese was rector of the University of St Andrews in Scotland from 1973-76 and, prior to his life as a comic genius, graduated from Cambridge University with a law degree.
