Description

Location: Twickenham, London, England
Year: 1977
Biography: Guitarist and songwriter with British rock band The Who. Townshend’s trademark windmill action and smashing of guitar on stage contribute to the band’s notoriety for being one of the best live bands in the history of rock music. As The Who’s principal songwriter he was responsible for enduring hits such as ‘My Generation’ and ‘Behind Blue Eyes’. He also wrote what many consider to be the first ever ‘rock opera’, Tommy which was turned into a successful film and Broadway musical. Townshend continues to play gigs and charity concerts with sole remaining original band member, singer Roger Daltrey.
