Description

Location: Barnes, London
Year: 1972
Biography: British singer, musician and songwriter born in London in 1947. Bolan formed Tyrannosaurus Rex (later T. Rex) in 1968 with fellow band member Steve Peregrine Took. By 1971’s single ‘Get It On’, they were one of the biggest bands in Britain and Bolan was carefully priming himself as a pop idol. An early friend of, and influence on, David Bowie, he churned out a succession of hits appealing to a mass of ‘glam rock’ followers, including: ‘Telegram Sam’, ‘Children Of The Revolution’ and ‘Twentieth Century Boy’. Bolan and his partner, American singer Gloria Jones, had a car crash in 1977 in which Bolan was killed. The spot in Barnes, London where they crashed is now a shrine for fans the world over.
