Location: Los Angeles
Year: 1981
Biography: Welsh singer Jones was signed by Gordon Mills in 1965 and his second release, ‘It’s Not Unusual’ went to Number One in 12 countries. As a beginning to his recording career, things couldn’t have gone much better if young women had thrown their underwear at him on stage; which, of course, they did. He retained his early popularity with hits such as ‘Green Green Grass of Home’ and ‘Delilah’ and even the great Elvis Presley was known to be a huge fan. During the 1980s, under his son Mark Woodward’s management, Jones revived his recording career in spectacular fashion and proceeded to cover songs by an unlikely mix of artists as diverse as Van Morrison and Prince. It gained him a whole new generation of fans and he is now nothing less than a legend.
